What's a playgroup?

A playgroup is a small group of parents and children who get together on a regular basis for informal socializing and play. It is most often formed spontaneously by parents based on their shared interests or culture.

Studies have shown that a playgroup can significantly help children develop social skills, gain independence, and build self-confidence. It can also give parents a chance to meet and learn from other parents.

The playgroup where we belong, for instance, is generally composed of children with Filipino moms. Although we are not promoting Filipino culture directly to the children, the mothers are just as happy that they are able to reconnect themselves with Filipino language, stories and food.
